After reading and listening to this dare you, as a Christian, leave your children in the public school system which has leaders that hate us so much and despise everything believers stand for? They are more concerned with teacher's rights and their power, than with the individual child in the classroom.
General Counsel Bob Chanin in his farewell speech to the NEA. No wonder they wouldn't let him speak normally! This speech was a last request as he retires. (This is just a video clip.)
"Despite what some among us would like to believe it is not because of our creative ideas; it is not because of the merit of our positions; it is not because we care about children; and it is not because we have a vision of a great public school for every child.
The NEA and its affiliates are effective advocates because we have power. And we have power because there are more than 3.2 million people who are willing to pay us hundreds of millions of dollars in dues each year because they believe that we are the unions that can most effectively represent them; the union that can protect their rights and advance their interests as education employees.
This is not to say that the concern of NEA and its affiliates with closing achievement gaps, reducing drop rate rates, improving teacher quality, and the like are unimportant or inappropriate. To the contrary these are the goals that guide the work we do. But they need not and must not be achieved at the expense of due process, employee rights, or collective bargaining.
That is simply too high a price to pay."
The video below is the full speech of Chanin. The point above begins at 21:37. Warning there are quite a few expletives in this speech. There was no warning on the original video. Glad at least he has not been in the classroom, because if this is the way you give a public speech, imagine the normal everyday speech.
Not only does the NEA hate Christians but also they are pro-Abortion and pro-Homosexual Marriage.
National Education Association Defeats Measure to Take Neutral Abortion Stance
... the National Education Association defeated a measure that would have had it take a neutral stance on abortion. The NEA has long supported abortion, pro-abortion candidates, and sponsored a forum with the former late-term abortion practitioner George Tiller.
NEA flexes 'political muscle,' backs same-sex 'marriage'
The NEA recently held its annual convention in San Diego, California, where members voted on two issues of importance to those involved in the culture war. One of those issues was whether the union would support same-gender marriage. According to Jeralee Smith, co-founder of the Conservative Educators Caucus, the resolution passed by roughly a two-thirds majority.
"There are quite a few items where the NEA absolutely puts its political muscle behind taking down any legislation in any state that they consider to be discriminatory to homosexuals," says Smith. "And some of the language in the resolution also hints that the NEA will try to take down the Defense of Marriage Act [DOMA] on the federal level."
You think just a little bit of this might show up in the public schools?

Something struck me when listening to retiring NEA General Counsel Bob Chanin...while he is taking pride in his achievements of gaining power and benefits for the NEA, he and people that think like him quite often belittle and minimize the influence of stay at home moms who spend their lives caring for children.

Donna,
I'm afraid the NEA thinks mothers have done nothing of value. They forget that a majority of what children do learn is learned out of the classroom, such as walking, running, speaking, potty training, etc. We as mothers are considered as unskilled, uneducated babysitters until they can get our children and mold them "correctly". That is why they want the children younger and younger to decrease the damage we might do to them.
I know all educators do not think this way, but obviously enough do such that this is the voice of the NEA. Someone had to support this kind of ideology. The good teachers can't stay and put up with this and the bad teachers are getting bolder.
I'm so thankful that I never had to have my children in the public school system!
